New Beginnings

Ok, so here we go....

I am not even sure how to start this entry..... Or what to say exactly.... But I just kind of want to kick myself in the behind and not let me have any further excuses I guess.... So that is why this post is going online....

Well let me explain what I actually mean.... So, after having two children over the course of 3 years, not doing much exercise at all and not really watching what I eat my body is looking, hmmmm, let's say just not really like it used to. Don't get me wrong at all, I am really about embracing a postpartum body and everything it brings with it. Wobbly tummy, stretch marks and the good old not so fresh looking boobs.... I mean seriously, our body has given everything to bring new life into this world and that is amazing!! So we should all be allowed to look exactly what we look like without being body shamed for it!!!!

However, I have been trying to embrace myself for the last years and I simply do not feel comfortable in my own body any more. I am not a person to let any media influence my body image, and I would consider myself with a strong person who doesn't really care what anyone thinks of her. It is purely coming from within me. I used to be really happy with my body, do a lot of sports and naturally not overeat without even thinking about my food. However, somehow all this has changed and I think it crept up on my and I didn't even realise when I stopped caring.... But now this is really catching up on me. I am unhappy whenever I feel that I ate something I, in my mind, shouldn't have and I can't stand what I see in the mirror., which is not healthy thinking.

So in order stop me from always thinking about starting a healthy lifestyle again and exercising eating well, taking some time for myself, and not doing it, I thought, if I just post this entry and maybe even 1 or 2 people read it then I have to go through with it and stop finding excuses for myself.

Maybe we can even find a few mummy's that are likeminded and start supporting each other on our journey to get healthy and fit.

If you feel the same and would like someone supporting you let me know and maybe we can start this journey together.

Let's do this!!

Does Makeup Expire?

Hello Everyone!

A couple of days ago, I watched a YouTube video where makeup expiry dates were mentioned.

Usually, I went by what I had been told in the past, which was basically that any powder should be alright for about 3-4 years, creams for about 2 years etc. But little did I know....

My husband asked me not long ago, how I know how long my makeup will last. I just replied, as long as it does not crumble or smell weird I am sure it is still ok to use. Just as long it is not way over the above mentioned time frames. Anyways, in this particular video it was explained that the little open cream pot with a number and 'M' inside it which is printed on each makeup or skin care item indicates the expiry date. To be honest, I had never paid attention to this symbol, neither did I look for it.

Almost immediately after hearing about this, I went to my makeup draws and started to check each piece of my precious collection. Almost every single item was out of date and I had to toss as good as all my make up.

For the first few days, I was really upset about having to throw away almost all of it. However, by now I see it as a fresh start to having minimal makeup, only having products that I will actually use up and that I love. To be honest, I feel so much better about my makeup by now because I actually enjoy every single item and I am not constantly thinking 'Oh, I need to use this or I need o use that' anymore.

Also, there is of course the health aspect of using expired makeup. I am not an expert or a doctor but using old makeup can cause eye irritations and worse. So please be aware of this. For information on this topic please consult with a doctor.

Over all, these were the approximate expiry dates that I came by mostly.

Lipgloss: 12 month

Lipstick: 24 month

Powders: 12 month

Foundation: 12 month

Mascara: 6 month

These dates of course also apply to skincare. I know that from now on, I will religiously be checking the dates on each packaging and ruthlessly be discarding any item which is going past this date, no matter how much I love it.

Love,
Linda

Neue Produkte von Rival De Loop Young

Hallo Alle zusammen,

Top 10 Tips For Buying A Wedding Dress

1. Set A Budget

First things first. Before you go out shopping for your dress, you need to set a budget. Wedding dresses can be really expensive because hours of work are are being invested in each dress and a lot of material is needed. So, it is best to sit down and think about how much you would like to spend or how much you can afford. Please keep in mind that you will also need to set aside a budget for alterations. Don't be afraid to ask how much they could come to because they are expensive. Once you are in the boutique, make sure you let the salesperson know about your budget before she/he shows you any dresses. It is no good to fall in love with a dress you can't afford and end the day upset.

2. Shop Early

The big surprise for a lot of brides is, how long you actually need to buy your dress in advance.
You will need to order your dress 6-9 month before your wedding. If you are unsure what you are looking for in a dress or if you are really indecisive you should give yourself even more time, let's say 10-12 month. If you leave it for too long your choices of dresses might become very limited and a gown you fall in love with might be out of reach. You also need to allow approximately 8 weeks for alterations. These will however depend in your dress. A simple gown will be easier/faster to alter than a heavily embellished ball gown.

3. Research

If your heart is set on a designer make sure you do your research to find out which boutiques actually stock the brand. Also, if your heart is set on trying a particular gown, ring up the store before your appointment to make sure that they have it in their collection. You don't want to be all excited only to have your spirits down by not getting to see the dresses you expected.

4. Entourage

It might sound perfect to have all yor girlfriends/bridal party plus your family members present for this big moment, but please keep in mind that this moment should be about you. Too many opinions can really spoil this experience. Not everybody likes the same styles and probably has their own idea as to what you should look like on your wedding day. It is best to narrow it down to 2 to 3 people. It will make the entire experience more relaxed and you are more likely to find a dress that you love with only the occasional constructive criticism. Anyone else can join you later for yor fittings if they can't wait to see you before your big day.

5. Lingerie

It is a good idea to wear underwear similar to the one your are thinking of wearing on your wedding day. This will already give you an idea of the fit of the dress and if you will need a bra at all... Thinking of it in terms of maybe wearing a corseted gown....
Also it might be best to keep the underwear nude, because you sure don't want to peek black undies to the whole boutique.

6. Be Open Minded

It is important to try on a few different styles of dresses. If the salesperson suggests a dress or a different style for you, go ahead and try it on, they are the experts and know what will suit you. Even though your heart might be set on a mermaid style you might be surprised to find yourself falling in love with a big ball gown.

7. Makeup

Wearing an understated pretty makeup on the day and doing your hair up nicely is a very good idea. It will help you envision yourself on your big day. My suggestion however is to keep your foundation to a minimum. The shops do not appreciate stains on their sample dresses. Also, maybe wear your hair in a simple updo that can easily be taken down if you would like to see yourself with a bit of a different look on the same day.

8. Read the Fine Print

A good salesperson will talk you through everything including the price, colour, style number, name of the gown, delivery date, deposit, alterations fee and cancellation policy. Ensure that you get all these details in writing and a contact number to call should you have any queries. This ensures you will not lose your money should there be anything wrong with your dress upon delivery.

9. Considering Second Hand

If you are on a really tight budget or simply do not want to spend a huge amount of money on a dress you will only wear once, maybe consider a pre-loved dress. This is what happened to me. I visited a wedding show with my mum and the second dress I tried on, I fell in love with. We were not seriously looking for a dress but just browsing and playing dress up. Therefore, I was not paying attention to the prices. Unfortunately, the gown was way out of my budget and I was so disappointed that I lost all interest in dress shopping. I knew this dress was the one for me and about a couple of month later, I was lucky enough to find it on a pre-loved site online. A week later the dress was mine, at a fraction of the original price. It was in perfect condition. Of course it needed some alterations and a dry clean, but at least I had my dream dress. If you would like to know more about how I did my dress shopping, let me know in the comments below and I can write a post about it.

10. Have Fun!
Today is about you, and only you. Enjoy this day to the full extend and don't worry too much about all the details, everything will fall into place and you will find 'The One Perfect Dress'. But don't stress too if it is not on your first appointment. This is the day everyone should fuss about you, tell you how beautiful you look and simply make you feel amazing.

Apple & and Pear Baby Puree

This is one of the very first purees I made for my baby. He absolutely loves it!! It is very simple, delicious and will usually make about 2 portions depending on how hungry your little one is. :-)

All you need is:

1 large apple
1 ripe pear

Heavy based sauce pan with a lid

Hand blender and a high rimmed plastic pot

Some water

How to make it:

I peel, wash and chop the apple and pear and add the chunks to the pot. Then add a little water, about as much as to cover the bottom of the pan.

Once the water is boiling, I let it cook for about 5 minutes. Then transfer the fruit to a plastic pot and blend to the desired consistency. How long you blend it for depends on how far along you are in the weaning process. For very young babies blend it until it is very smooth, and for a little older babies who are used to some foods or textures you can leave it a bit more lumpy or just mash it.

Then place the purée in a fun little bowl and cool it down quickly. It needs to be completely cool before feeding it to your baby or otherwise your little one might become quite bloated and have tummy pains.

Enjoy!

Love,
Linda

Baby Food - New Series

Hello All,

my little Baby Bear has now been on solid foods for a bit more than a month and has taken very well to weaning. He basically munches everything I give him except of banana puree. :-) Somehow, he kind of hates it (even though he eats everything containing banana and licks banana slices…hmmmm).

I have been making all his purees from scratch and will continue to do so now as his food is getting a bit more solid. This way I can ensure that he gets the most nutritious and fresh foods possible without any additives. Also, it is much more pocket friendly as the baby jars and pouches are really expensive and making food yourself is really enjoyable and saves you a lot of cash.

It is up to you if you prefer to make up big batches and freeze your baby food or if you cook it fresh for each meal. We don't have a big freezer therefore that option is unfortunately not working for me. But hey, I love cooking, so why not cook several times a day. :-)

In this series I will share my recipes for all his purees and fingers foods, and let you know about my experiences with them, the good and the bad.

Please keep in mind that I am no expert or dietician and this is simply what worked for us. Please check with your doctor/health visitor before making changes to your babies diet.

Hope you enjoy!!!

Linda

Maybelline Dream Flawless Nude Foundation

Well, i have to say, I barely ever sway from my favourite foundations into new territory, however, you just cannot escape the mass load of adverts for this new gem. It seems to be the new favourite among us bloggers and you tubers….. So what is this all about?

The 'Dream Flawless Nude' is a very light weight, very pigmented foundation with a fluid texture and is quite a new thing to the drugstore. You have found the likes before with the YSL Fusion Ink, Dior etc, but not at an affordable price.
An extra bonus is the really cute and girly bottle which I absolutely adore! Additionally, it features a new type of applicator which is shaped like a tear drop to allow easy application (if you would have to use it without a pump or this it would probably end of all over your shirt, dressing table etc. but not on you, its that liquid). I am not sure that this new applicator is going to end up being loved by me, but for the meantime I just simply dab it on my face, blend it out and be done with it…

Before each use you will notice that a clear liquid collects above the actual foundation, but this is normal. There is quite a fair bit of alcohol in this product, which will separate on the top. Before use, simply give it a really good shake and it will mix nicely.
The foundation itself keeps to its promise. It melts into your skin!!! Once applied you will not feel it and even after hours of wear it will not budge, which is great in summer time.
The coverage it light to medium but you can definitely build it up to a medium or light full coverage.
The finish is also absolutely lovely!! It has a slight satin sheen to it but is not too dewy and therefore I would say perfect for oily to normal skin. If you have very dry skin, you might want to stay away from this foundation as I can image that it might look caky (but give it a try with a really hydrating moisturiser as a base). However, on my combination skin, it looks absolutely beautiful. The only downside that I found is that it has quite a yellow tinge to it. I have got the fairest shade, which is ivory, so I am not able to say that it is the same with every single shade but I could definitely notice it (but not to a point where it would bother me).

All in all, this is an amaze balls foundation for spring summer time which can battle much more expensive high end brands at a drugstore price.

Let me know in the comments below what you think!

Lots of love,
Linda

All things baby….

Hello Everyone,

I thought I am going to vamp up my blog with a few more topics……

One that is really close to my heart is pregnancy. Being 37 weeks pregnant myself at the moment, I thought it is about time that I start writing about it.

I have been really lucky during my whole pregnancy and did not have any major issues… other than really bad morning sickness for the first 5 month… and I am telling you…. the name morning sickness does not do it justice as it really lasted the entire day and night for me. But more about this later.

So basically, I am going to write about my experiences during my pregnancy, product reviews, new mummy advise… you get the drift…

If you have anything in particular that you would like me to write about or have any questions that you would like me to cover, please just let me know in the comments below.

Please keep in mind that I am not a professional on healthcare or a midwife/doctor. I am your normal chick from next door and this will definitely not be expert advise, but just me talking about my personal experiences.

Hopefully you will like it and maybe it might help you mums out there a little.

Lots of love,
Linda

Vegetable Soup

Hi Everyone,

The weather is getting slightly colder and it seems as if autumn is slowly on its way. I just hope we will still get to enjoy a few days of glorious warm sunshine before the cosy season starts.

However, this weather inspired me to try out our family recipe for vegetable soup. It's really simple and quick but tastes amazing! And you know I like myself some quick and easy cooking…

So here we go:

First of all you need vegetables to your taste. I used a frozen casserole mix of carrots, onion, leek sweet and celery, added some cauliflower and filled the pot with water. Add some salt and start to bring it to a boil. In the meantime, squeeze balls of meat out of some sausages and add to the soup mix straight away. Once the soup has boiled for about 15 minutes, I added some broccoli. Of course you can skip this step if you don't like broccoli. Boil for another ten minutes and, voilá, the soup is as good as done.
Next, you need to remove your meatballs and mash your soup up a little, or keep it chunky, this is completely down to your own taste. Add the meatballs back in and it is ready to serve.

Just as a little tip, when my soup started to boil there was a lot of foam forming on the top. Freaking out a little, or actually freaking out quite a bit because I thought I really messed is up, I called my mum straight away.... Yup, mummy needed to help...... But she calmed me down saying the foam is normal and disappears while cooking.... It's just the fat from the meat.... Puhhhhh…..

Alright, this is it for today. I hope you will enjoy this recipe!!

Lots of love,
Linda

Strawberries and Cream Cupcakes

Hello Everyone,

another weekend, another cupcake…..

This time I felt like something really sweet and fruity, so Strawberry and Cream it was.

These cupcakes are soooo easy to make but absolutely delicious!

To make approximately 12 cupcakes you will need:

For the batter (this is my base cupcake recipe):

100g Butter or Margarine at room temperature
100g Caster Sugar
2 Eggs
100g Self-Raising flour
1 tsp Vanilla Extract (if you don't have Vanilla Extract, Vanilla Essence will also do the trick)

You will also need:

Some fresh strawberries
Cupcake cases of your choice

Preheat your oven to 160 degrees / 320 Fahrenheit.

Line a cupcake / muffin tray with the cupcake cases.

Give your strawberries a good wash and remove the leaves, and slice them into pieces.

Start of by mixing your butter until it gets really fluffy and light (this might take a few minutes).

Then add your caster sugar and keep beating.

Once these two ingredients are nicely combined, start adding the eggs gradually and keep mixing. If you see that your mixture is starting to curdle slightly, add a spoon full of the flour and that will fix it.

When your mixture is nice and smooth, gradually start mixing in the flour and add your Vanilla Extract. Keep mixing for another couple of minutes and you are done.

Now pour your mixture evenly into the cases and add one piece of strawberry to each. I usually press them into the mixture slightly, however, be careful not to press them in too much, because they will sink while baking and we don't want them to be just sitting a the bottom and soak the case. :-)

Then bake the cupcakes in the over for approximately 15-20 minutes. The baking time will depend on each individual oven, but the cupcakes are done when they are nice and golden, and springy to the touch.

For the cream icing I don't really go by measurements but basically by how much of a sweet tooth me and my husband are having that day.

You only need 1 tub of double/heavy cream or extra thick double cream, as much of Vanilla Extract/Essence as you like and icing sugar. That's all!

Pour your cream into a bowl, add your vanilla and some icing sugar. Then start beating. It will probably take several minutes for the mixture to become nice and thick in consistency, but the timing will depend on the type or cream you are using.
Usually I give it a little taste throughout and see if it needs more icing sugar. If it is not sweet enough for you, just keep adding more until you have achieved your perfect creamy goodness.

Once the cupcakes have cooled completely, you can add your icing.
I use disposable piping bags with which you only snip off the tip and insert your nozzle. Then stand your piping bag up in a tall glass, roll down the edges and add your icing with a spatula.
The nozzle I used this time is a Wilton 1M.

Then just get piping and creative! In this instance, I added some flower decoration which I made myself about 2 days before. Please don't judge, this was my first ever attempt in making anything from flower paste!!! But I was quite happy with the outcome. :-)

Anyways, all you need to do now is enjoy!!!

Let me know if you give these cupcakes a go. I would love to hear if you liked them!

Lots of love,
Linda

Easy Carrot Cake Cupcakes

Hi Everyone,

A few days ago we came back from a weekend trip and during a stop at the services, I found a little gem of a cupcake book called simply "The Cupcake" by Love Food, and just could not resist.

It is packed full of little cupcake goodness. My husband got the first choice of cupcake and as he loves carrot cake he chose the mini version.

They tasted absolutely divine so I just had to share them.

So here we go….

According  to the recipe, these ingredients should equal 12 cupcakes, however, when I made them, I actually got 18….. not sure why…..

Ingredients:

175 g/ 6oz butter, softened, or soft margarine
115 g/4 oz caster sugar
2 eggs, lightly beaten
300 g/ 10.5 oz carrots, grated
55 g/ 2 oz walnuts, finely chopped
2 tbsp orange juice
grated rind of 1/2 orange
175 g. 6 oz self-raising flour
1 tsp ground cinnamon
12 walnut halves, to decorate

For the frosting:

115 g/ 4 oz full-fat cream cheese
1 tbsp orange juice
225 g/ 8 oz icing sugar

First of all you need to preheat your oven to 180 degrees (350 Fahrenheit) and put 12 cupcake cases into a tray.

Next, beat the butter/margarine together with the caster sugar until its really nice a fluffy. It will also get a little lighter in colour. Gradually start beating in the eggs.
Once that's done, you need to add in your grated carrots, chopped walnuts, orange juice and orange rind. I used a spatula to fold the mixture together. Then sift in your cinnamon and flour and again fold it in. It is best to use a metal spoon because the mixture is less likely to stick to it.

The fill your cases and bake in the preheated oven for about 15-20 minutes. Keep checking them because the baking time will differ with every oven. They should be nice and golden and firm to the touch. Leave them on a wire rack to cool.

Now, we can make the yummy frosting. Add the cream cheese and orange juice to a bowl and sift in your icing sugar, then beat the mixture until it's fluffy.

Once the cupcakes are completely cooled, you can add the frosting and top each with a walnut half.

All you need to do now is enjoy!!!

Let me know in the comments below what you think of them!!!

Lot's of love,
Linda

What to wear in Venice?

Getting around Venice in style. That was my on my mind when we went for a little weekend break to this absolutely gorgeous place . But how to achieve it? Keeping in mind the endless hours of sightseeing, which usually requires sturdy shoes and the changing temperatures from morning to evening (by the way, it was below zero in the morning and evening rising up to 20degrees during the day) does not make it really easy to come up with a cute outfit that will get you through the day... And of course you still want to look cute for visiting numerous restaurants to indulge on all the amazing Italian food.

So here is my solution.....
I paired a faux leather skater skirt (H&M: £14.99) with a cute slouchy little t-shirt (H&M: £4 on sale) which has a homage to one of my favourite movies 'Mean Girls' as a print. For when it got chilly, I threw on a very comfy and warm cardigan which features a beautiful bold bird print (Zara: £12, on sale, from last year) and also wore some tights to keep me snug. The ballerinas were also perfect for walking around as I did not struggle with all the cobble stones, stairs and bridges (Deichmann: £12.99).
To enjoy the bright sunshine I brought my Chanel sunglasses but chose to skip too many accessories as the entire outfit was already quite bold and simply opted for some small diamond studs.

Have you ever been to Venice? Let me know what your favourite place was! I would love to hear it!

Easter Cupcakes

Hello Everyone,

Happy Easter!!!!!

This year it is time for yummie cupcakes…. So I got my baking gear going and was off to the kitchen….

Cupcakes are a very easy and fun alternative to traditional cakes. Especially for the little ones they are a ton of fun to decorate.
You just need to choose a base recipe and then let your imagination run wild!!!

I chose a base recipe for vanilla sponge and whisked up a really simple frosting made up from extra thick double cream mixed with vanilla essence and icing sugar. Usually, I am not a fan of icings which are too sweet and this way you can sweeten it to your own personal preference.

Hopefully you are all having a wonderful Easter break!!

Lots of love,

Best Affordable Makeup Brushes

Ok, who of us does not love a good bargain? Right? We ALL do!!!!

I was browsing eBay for just a teeny tiny bit a few weeks ago and spotted this little gem of a brush set!! Simply couldn't wait to let you know about it!

The set comes with four pretty synthetic face brushes, making them perfect for cream product application.
Having had these brushes for a few weeks now and having used the heck out of them, they seem to be of great quality. In my opinion they can easily compete with MAC brushes. They also remind me soooo much of the Sigma brushes because the shapes contained in this set, have also been released by them.
Believe me, I am all for good quality brushes, especially as you use them on your face every day, but I just don't appreciate the price tag of most.
Their bristles are incredibly soft and dense. The design is right up my alley being sleek and sophisticated, featuring a black and silver handle, however, they are also available in black and gold.

This is, in my opinion, such a great find and for less than £5 you can't go wrong.
My absolute favorites are the tapered and angled brush. For blending out my under eye concealer I have not used any other brush than the tapered one since the moment I got the brushes through my letterbox (and of course after giving them a good clean...). The angled brush is perfect for applying cream blush and would also be amazing for cream contouring.
It also brings a domed and flat top brush. Both of them are great for blending!

Overall, if you are on a tight budget or just happy to give these brushes a go, I do not believe that you would be disappointed.
You can find them on www.ebay.co.uk when searching synthetic kabuki makeup brushes.
Unfortunately, by the time I was writing this post, the auction where I purchased my set had finished, but I am sure that it will come back on giving it a few days. Otherwise, there a loads more suppliers who are offering the same set for about the same price. I have seen a few for £6.70, which is still an absolute bargain.

Being usually shipped from China and you will have to expect a longer delivery time frame, but it's worth it.

On that note, I will finish for today.

I hope you are all having a wonderful day whatever you are doing.

Lots of love,
Linda

Chocolate Pralines Time

Hi Everyone,

this weekend it was finally time for my friend and I to hang out and have a good old girls day again.

We watched some good movies, drank tea and had strawberries with chocolate pralines which I made the day before.

They looked so pretty, paired with the berries that I could not go on having a peaceful afternoon without having to take photos before we could eat them. It was sooooo not easy to resist the temptation for even a few more minutes….

It is a typical blogging thing, that you need to take a picture of absolutely EVERYTHING before you allow yourself to eat, drink or use it…. but on a sunny afternoon when you are lusting after dark chocolate and fruit it is not that easy….

So after snapping my photos it was time to dump the camera in the corner and dig in…..

See you next time!

Lots of love,
Linda XXX

Spring is here!

Hello Everyone,

Last week I got to spend some quality time with my family back home in Germany. It was lovely!

For the first time in a few years I celebrated my birthday with my whole family, got to see all my friends, had some really good food and just spend a lot of time in the countryside and sunshine.

The weather was so amazing and the first spring flowers came out. They were all so pretty that I really wanted to share some pictures with you.

Enjoy!

Lots of love,
Linda
